Headless Content Management System

Flexible content pages for e-commerce website & App

Headless Content Management System for a Dutch Supermarket Chain

For this project, I was part of a team of over 10 people, including developers, a product owner, QA testers, and another UX designer. We worked on creating a headless CMS for a major Dutch supermarket chain’s website and app. Our goal was to enhance their digital presence with a future-proof solution that could integrate seamlessly across various platforms.

Partnering with Contentful, a modern cloud-native CMS, we reimagined the existing information architecture by deconstructing current webpage structures. This allowed us to design a more intuitive and flexible system that improved content management and user experience.

Collaboration was key. We regularly engaged with internal teams and end-users to ensure the CMS met both business needs and user expectations. Additionally, working in parallel with other development teams required constant alignment sessions to synchronize efforts and avoid overlaps.

The result was a robust CMS that streamlined content management and improved the user experience across the supermarket’s digital channels. This project underscored the importance of teamwork, user-centered design, and adaptability in achieving successful outcomes.

During this project, I had a wide range of UX responsibilities. To name a few:

  • Conducted user research to gather insights and feedback from end-users and stakeholders.
  • Collaborated closely with multidisciplinary teams, including developers, content creators, and marketing specialists.
  • Reimagined and redesigned the information architecture to better suit a headless CMS structure.
  • Created wireframes, prototypes, and design iterations based on user feedback and business needs.
  • Ensured consistency and usability across the website and app by refining user flows, interfaces and a design system.
  • Participated in regular alignment sessions with parallel development teams to synchronize efforts and ensure cohesive design implementation.
  • Applied the design thinking methodology to empathize with users, define problems, ideate solutions, and validate designs through testing.
  • Partnered with Contentful to integrate a scalable, cloud-native CMS that met the supermarket chain’s evolving content management needs.
